We are pleased to announce that Gemserv has achieved CarbonNeutral® status in accordance with The CarbonNeutral Protocol’.
In order to stem the increase in global carbon emissions, Gemserv is evolving by embracing it’s zero carbon efforts, improving energy efficiency and promoting the circular economy to eliminate waste. This effort is also supported by Gemserv’s Sustainable Business Plan 2018 -2021 which states:
“At Gemserv we believe in ‘profit with purpose’. It is at the heart of what we do. We believe that it is vital to combine our commercial ambition with our desire to achieve a positive social and environmental impact. It is important to us that we work with organisations that hold the same values and their trading practices are ethical, socially responsible and consider their impact on the environment.”
With our strategy in mind, the emissions we have not been able to avoid as a business (staff commute, business travel, electricity, water and gas consumption etc.) will be offset by a solar project in East Asia, part funded by Gemserv. The project supports 100,000 rural households with Solar Cookers to improve their indoor air quality and living conditions. The Cookers consist of a 1.7m2 parabolic dish, which concentrates solar energy onto a central cooking pot and provides sufficient heat for cooking the local staple food of rice. Its design is ideal for the local diet and climatic conditions, with ample sunshine throughout the year, meaning that the difference it makes to the lives of these people is substantial with minimal disruption to their daily routines. The cooker displaces traditional inefficient coal-fired cooking stoves, significantly reducing fuel consumption and indoor air pollution.
Alex Goody, Chief Executive at Gemserv said, “Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of modern times. Gemserv recognises the collective responsibility of businesses to take action to reduce carbon emissions (and other greenhouse gases) that contribute to climate change.”
Alex continued, “CarbonNeutral certification makes a clear and credible statement about the actions Gemserv has taken on their contribution to managing climate change. Displaying the CarbonNeutral certification mark clearly demonstrates that Gemserv has set and met a target for zero emissions in accordance with The CarbonNeutral Protocol.”
CarbonNeutral certification is granted to businesses or organisations which have reduced their carbon emissions to net zero in accordance with The CarbonNeutral Protocol. The Carbon Neutral Protocol is the global standard for carbon neutral programmes, providing the pragmatic guidance businesses need to build credible reduction solutions and report zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The CarbonNeutral Protocol guarantees the integrity and credibility of companies carbon neutral programmes and enables them to be certified CarbonNeutral.
